This Phase is called the Hades Phase simply because it reveals a student’s emotional, behavioral, or mental state they experience from the struggles, problems and issues they have, literally the Hades (Hell) they are going through within their life prior to Olympus Academy at the point they enter the program, and not because a hellish experience is ever inflicted on a student by the program or staff; This Phase is not considered a Level in the Olympus Academy program, because it simply illustrates various students who come into the program from issues and problems like depression, ADD, ADHD, substance abuse, addiction, defiance, negative peer association, anger management, lack of motivation, and so forth. These struggles have made each teen feel as if they are going through a hellish phase within their life, and needing to desperately get out of their situation, and make improvements. It is important that each student comes to a realization, that they need help, in order for them to make true progress. This beginning Phase helps each student discover, recognize, and acknowledge the help they need, and begin to make improvement during the beginning period a student is within the Residential Treatment Center (RTC) portion of the program known as the Hades Phase, before he/she moves forward and advances within the Therapeutic School portion if the program.
At Risk Youth Programs
What Are At Risk Youth Programs?
At risk youth programs are different options available to students who are more likely to not succeed academically. These students are problematic children that are in trouble with the law, young pregnant girls, adolescents that live in poverty and students who suffer from emotional, behavioral, or learning difficulties. The different curriculums include:
- Charter Schools/Home School
- Boot Camp and Wilderness Therapy
- Substance/Addiction Rehabilitation
- Military Academies and Private Boarding Schools
- Residential Treatment Centers and Therapeutic Boarding Schools
All of these at risk youth programs use different techniques to help kids with different life struggles. Not all of them are right for each individual adolescent, but all of them do have advantages and disadvantages.
Short Term & Flexible vs. Private Boarding Schools and Military Programs for At Risk Youth
Charter school & home school at risk youth programs are helpful in the event that a student is being bullied, a teenage girl becomes pregnant, or a adolescent is working to help take care of his/her family. These curriculums are much more flexible and self-paced than public school.
For adolescents that are lacking discipline and respect, boot camps or wilderness therapy at risk youth programs can be helpful. Both of these treatment options use intense physical and mental training to teach kids self-discipline, respect, and gratitude. These are typically short-term treatment options that run 6-12 weeks. Although hese options have benefits for adolescents, they are not the most efficient curriculums. Short-term and flexible alternative options may work in the present, but the effects do not typically last after a child leaves. Kids often revert back to old bad habits without having the right kind of care. Long term curriculums are much more favorable at risk youth programs. Military academies and private boarding schools board students during the academic year. Both options hold very high academic and behavioral standards and will expel students for misconduct. Though both options can help students with minor behavioral options, they work well as a preventative measures against bad behavior. Both options do not accept students with behavioral problems or severe emotional struggles.
Residential treatment provides a place for you to live for 6 months or more while you recover. You get therapy and 24-hour care. This may be a good option if you have a long history of drug abuse or crime or if you have an unstable work or home situation. –WebMD
