The 2nd Level is the “Hercules Level”
The Hercules Level is a reminder that students have made incredible progress, and are trusted with opportunities that allow them to show their strength of progress, character, and their ability to overcome weaknesses. Just as Hercules had 10-12 Labors to complete in order to demonstrate his ability to progress in proving himself, so is the Hercules Level required of each student in the program, in order to demonstrate character development to advance to the next Level. In this Level, students become Junior Staff in the program, giving them the opportunity to mentor other students who come into the program to help them, and so doing… helping themselves. Hercules was known as a “Hero,” and this Level gives every student the opportunity to become a hero through positive good deeds within our mentorship program, apprenticeship program, adopt-a-pet program, community service activities, gardening program, trainer transformation program, ropes course program, and our on-campus fishing program. This Level gives each student the opportunity to facilitate in leadership roles…providing a momentous reason to stay on track with their own progress!

Programs for Teens – When to Seek Help
Parents of destructive adolescents often wonder, “When do I seek outside help for my child?” Studies show that the sooner a child receives help for difficult or destructive behavior, the higher his or her chances of a successful recovery are. Programs for teens come in different methodical approaches, and must fit the issues for your child. It is important to seek help as soon as there are signs of substance abuse or addiction. These signs include:
- Irritability/poor attitude
- Poor academic performance
- Sudden change in attitude or appearance
- Lack of interest in hobbies and extra-curricular activities
- Change in friends
Not all of these signs necessarily mean that an adolescent has a substance abuse problem, but these are sure signs that a child could be suffering from an emotional or behavioral problem that needs attention. There are many different kinds of programs for teens that can help.
Different Teen Addiction Programs
Nowadays, adolescents have several different programs for teens to choose from. There are short-term rehab centers, boot camps, and wilderness therapy camps that offer help with substance abuse and addiction in 30-90 day treatment. There are also long-term therapeutic boarding schools and residential treatment centers that provide intense addiction therapy along with a quality education.
Short–Term Substance Abuse Programs for Teens
Short-term help for teens are popular with adolescents and parents because of the extremely short nature of the curriculums. Short-term care can last from 4 weeks to 12 weeks. Boot camps and wilderness therapy do not utilize therapeutic methods aside from intense physical activity, structure and discipline, making them quite ineffective in the long run. It may help take care of the detox process, but does not offer the help needed to keep adolescents from relapsing.

Long-Term Substance Abuse Programs for Teens
Long-term substance abuse programs for teens have a much higher rate of effectiveness than short-term care. However, there are long-term schools that claim to help with drug abuse that do not have the therapeutic care needed either. Private boarding schools advertise to help adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems, but many of them will not accept students that are unable to meet the high academic and behavioral standards of the school. If a child is enrolled in a private boarding school and fails to meet the requirements, he or she will be expelled. These schools tend to put a lot of pressure on students to live up to the reputation of the school. This is very troublesome for adolescents who struggle with different problems.
